FAQ
1.) Why did you choose the name The Banana Book?
Based on the research we've done the original Banana Book started in the 1970s and started as a book filled with newspaper clippings. So basically, it started as a book of memories through time. When we started conceptualizing our own brand of photo books, we also chose to call it The Banana Book since we want our photo books to not just be a book filled with pictures but a book filled with treasured memories that's going to last a lifetime.
2.) What makes The Banana Book's Photo Books different from the traditional photo album?
With the traditional photo album you have to have your pictures printed individually, by a photo album, and arrange the pictures on the album. Whereas with The Banana Book you don't have to do all those anymore. You simply have to give us a CD of your pictures or even just your memory card or flash drives, we layout your photos, we print them on the actual pages, and voila! You can now relive precious memories with just a flip of a page!
3.) What type of printing technology are you using?
We use digital press technology in printing Banana Books and the paper that we use is of the archival type. With our archival quality paper it is guaranteed that the prints are going to last a very long time provided that you also take care of the Banana Book.
4.) What is the best way to take care of our Banana Books?
To ensure that your photo books last long and that you can eventually pass them on to your children or even your grandchildren as treasured keepsakes, Banana Books have to be stored properly. The best way is to keep them in bookshelves with room temperature. Never expose your Banana Books to extreme heat for long periods of time and make sure to flip the pages only when you have clean hands. Keep them out of reach of little children as they might mishandle the pages.
5.) If we cannot choose from any of the available themes can we make the layout ourselves?
Yes you can layout the book yourself provided that you follow the same dimensions indicated on your preferred book. For instance you want to order a Large Hard or Soft Cover Book you have to make a 8.5 by 11 inches (horizontal) layout. For a Medium Hard or Soft cover Book you have to make a 6 by 8 inches (horizontal) layout. All dimensions are indicated on the product page. Also, make sure to leave 1/4 of an inch or .25 inch allowance on all four pages for the bleed. When we say allowance just make sure that there's nothing important (especially people or body parts) so close to the edge or else they are going to get cut out. Save each layout in .jpg format and with 300dpi resolution.
6.) How many pictures can fit in one Banana Book?
The number of pictures will depend on the theme that you choose. Some themes allow up to six pictures in a single page and some themes allow only up to four. We have provided you with this information on the Photo Book product page. When you click on a theme you will be able to see the number of allowable pictures per page. A regular Banana Book holds 20 pages (10 sheets back to back). However, more pages can be added with an additional fee.
7.) What gives The Banana Book an edge over the other photo books?
Here at The Banana Book we only use materials with the best quality without sacrificing affordability. We print your photos on imported archival quality paper so prints are guaranteed to last very long. The covers that we use for our hard cover books are made in Europe and have the best quality in terms of durability, they look sleek and very professional.

8.) What software are you using to layout our photos?
We use I-Photo '08 to layout your photos. The I-Photo comes with any Macintosh Computer.
9.) If I have my own MAC can I layout my book myself? How do I send the file to you?
Yes if you have our own MAC you can use I-Photo to layout your book. If you do not know how to use I-Photo there are several tutorials available on www.apple.com. Once you're done laying out your book you go to 'Print' then click 'Save as PDF'. Send the PDF file to us via our dropbox at http://dropbox.yousendit.com/thebananabook
10.) How big should my picture files be in order to have the best print quality output?
We strongly recommend that picture files should have at least 300dpi resolution and should be in jpeg format.
11.) Do you accept old pictures that are not in digital format?
Yes we accept actual hard copy pictures. What we do is we scan them and convert them into digital format. However, for pictures like these there will be some losses in terms of detail and sharpness when it comes to the actual print.
